Reception in honour of Emeritus Professor Ian H. Frazer, Prince Mahidol Award Laureate 2022

On 9 June 2023, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand, hosted a reception in honour of Emeritus Professor Ian H. Frazer, Prince Mahidol Award Laureate 2022 in the field of public health, and his spouse at the Thai Residence, Canberra. The reception was attended by key persons from the fields of medical, science and research and public health in Canberra, high-ranking officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, former Australian ambassadors to Thailand, as well as Heads of Team Thailand based in Canberra and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy.
In her remarks, Ambassador Arjaree congratulated Professor Frazer for being conferred the Prince Mahidol Award, highlighting the importance of his achievement. His research and discovery have led to the development of HPV vaccines and thereby contributed tremendously to the prevention of HPV infection, cervical cancer and other HPV related cancers, and saved lives of people worldwide.
Professor Frazer also delivered his remarks expressing his appreciation and honour for receiving this prestigious award.
The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under the Royal Patronage was established in 1992 in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla, the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand.
The Prince Mahidol Award is conferred annually upon individual(s) or institution(s) whose outstanding performance in the field of medicine and public health benefit mankind. For the year 2022, the Awards were presented to four recipients, one award for the field of medicine and another three awards for the field of public health.
