Processing Time

As of 31 October 2019, visa applicant for Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” (for retirement long stay) must have health insurance which covers the whole period of stay in Thailand.

Details of the requirement for health insurance are as follows:

  • For In-patient: health insurance policy must have coverage at least 400,000 Thai Baht per policy year.
  • For Out-patient: health insurance policy must have coverage at least 40,000 Thai Baht per policy year.

In addition to the existing required documents, visa applicant for Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” (for retirement long stay) must furnish a completed “Insurance Certificate” as attached, as well as an original health insurance policy. A copy of the health insurance policy may only be accepted, provided that the applicant purchases the health insurance from participating Thai insurance companies as listed here http://longstay.tgia.org/.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION :

–   Australian passport holders are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days on each visit. However, entering Thailand without visa through land border check-points is restricted to only twice per calendar year.

   All non-Australian citizens are required to show proof of valid Australian Permanent Resident or Temporary Resident visa (e.g. Student, Temporary Working Skills, Work and Holiday, Partner visa).

   Applicants bearing no Australian visa (i.e. eligible to enter Australia for tourism purpose on a visa exemption scheme) or bearing Visitor (Subclass 600) visa will not be eligible to apply for any category of non-immigrant or other semi-permanent visa to Thailand.  The said applicants are eligible to apply only Transit or Tourist visa to Thailand.

    For Nigerian nationalities and passport holders, Certificate of Clearance from NDLEA and authenticated by The Ministry of Foreign Affair of Nigeria and Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria is required

VISA PROCESSING TIME

  • Apply in Person

Visa Application FORM  : Minimum Visa Processing Time is 3 – 5 Working Days

Passport holders of the above-mentioned countries bearing VISITOR (subclass 600) Australian Visa, the visa processing time may take up to 1 – 1.5 months as the Embassy must seek the approval from the authorities concerned in Thailand before visa can be issued

    For nationals of Afghanistan, Iraqi, North Korean and other nationalilty-unspecified Passport or Travel Document Holders, visa processing time may take up to 1.5 – 2 months as the Embassy must seek the approval from the authorities concerned in Thailand before visa can be issued

  • Apply by Mail

The minimum visa processing time for the submission by mail is the same as applying in person 3 – 5 Working Days excluding mailing time.  When submitting an application by mail, please provide SELF ADDRESS EXPRESS ENVELOPE for returning your passport and use a tracking number to check the status of your delivery.

We make every effort to prevent the loss of your mail when sending from our office.  However, the Embassy will not be liable for lost or misdelivered mail.

VISA APPLICATION WITH INCOMPLETE DOCUMENTATION OR INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR PROCESSING WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE REJECTED.

VISA TRACKING

We do our best to process all applications in a timely manner.  If it has been at least 10 working days since we received your visa application, you may check its status through VISA TRACKING on this website by using your passport number instead of calling the Embassy.

VISA PROCESSING FEE

  • The processing fee must be paid in exact amount in Australian Dollars by cash, money order or bank check. (personal or company checks are not accepted)
  • The fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome or withdraws of your visa application.
  • There is NO URGENT PROCESSING SERVICE OF VISA.

VISA TYPES/PURPOSE OF VISIT

DIPLOMATIC OR OFFICIAL VISA
Purpose of Visit: To enter Thailand on diplomatic or official functions.

 

TOURIST VISA (Maximum stay 60 days and employment is prohibited)
Purpose of Visit: To travel for tourism (pleasure) purposes only (Category “TR”)

 

TRANSIT VISA (Maximum stay 30 days)
Purpose of Visit:

To transit through Thailand to another country of destination (Category “TS”)

To participate in sport activities (Category “S”)

Crew member coming to a port, station or area in the Kingdom (Category “C”)

 

NON-IMMIGRANT VISA (Maximum stay 90 days, extension of stay may be applied with the Immigration Bureau in Thailand)

*Applicants bearing no Australian visa (i.e. eligible to enter Australia for tourism purpose on the visa exemption scheme) or bearing Visitor (Subclass 600) visa will not be eligible to apply for any category of non-immigrant or other semi-permanent visa to Thailand.  The said applicants are eligible to apply only Transit or Tourist visa to Thailand.  

Purpose of Visit:

To perform governmental or official duties (Category “F”)

To conduct business, attend conference, or to work (Category “B”)

To study (Category “ED”)

To visit immediate family.  It normally includes spouses and children. (Category “O”)

To perform volunteer work.  A supporting letter from NGO in Thailand together with a copy of its registration certificate is required. (Category “O”)

To conduct research and training at Thai education institution. (Category “RS”)

To work as a film-producer, journalist or reporter.  Approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand is required. (Category “M”)

To perform missionary work or other religious activities with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries or Departments concerned. (Category “RA”)

RETIREMENT/LONG-STAY VISA (Maximum stay 1 year and employment is prohibited)

 

Purpose of Visit: This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and over who wish to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 1 year without the intention of working.  Financial statement and police check are required. (Category “O-A”)

 

WORKING AND HOLIDAY VISA (Only for Australian Citizen)

 

Purpose of Visit: This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 18-30 years who wish to supplement their holiday in Thailand by short-term employment. (Category “B-A”)
