On 6 December 2023, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to the Commonwealth of Australia welcomed the 2024 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholars at the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra. The Ambassador congratulated the three Scholars and gave a short briefing as part of a pre-departure training in Canberra prior to their study and internships in Thailand later next year. The Ambassador also emphasized the significance of the opportunities provided to the Scholars as they would be travelling to Thailand where they would gain knowledge and experiences in both academic and cultural aspects, as well as establish connections. The NCP Scholars’ experiences would help to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance future cooperation between the two countries, in particular, nurture and support the people-to-people links between Thailand and Australia. The Ambassador also learned about the Scholars’ interest in their respective studies and in Thailand in general.

The New Colombo Plan is an initiative of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade which aims to engage NCP scholars with the Indo-Pacific region by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region. The NCP involves a scholarship program for study of up to one year and internships or mentorships, and a flexible mobility grants program for both short and longer-term study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research.
