On 12 April 2024, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand, led officials of the Royal Thai Embassy and Heads of Thailand Agencies in Canberra, together with their families, to pay respect to the Buddha image by pouring fragrance water over the Buddha image. This religious activity was held as part of the Thai celebration on the Thai New Year and Songkran Festival. On this occasion, all participants paid respect, received the Ambassador’s well-wishes, and wished her a Happy Thai New Year by pouring fragrance water on her hands, a tradition Thai people conduct during the celebration.
This year’s Songkran celebration in Thailand is special as on 6 December 2023, UNESCO has inscribed Songkran in Thailand on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
