Ambassador of Thailand advanced Thailand – Australia Strategic Partnership in Queensland

During her trip to Queensland on 15 – 19 March 2021, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Australia, met with representatives of the govermmental and academic sectors in Queensland to advance the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
1) Courtesy Call on Governor of Queensland
On 17 March 2021, Ambassador Busadee paid a courtesy call on H.E. the Hon. Paul de Jersey, Governor of Queensland at the Government House, Brisbane. Both sides exchanged views on the COVID-19 pandemic and the Thai community in Queensland.
The Governor of Queensland has delivered key remarks at the Memorial Service in honour of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in October 2016. His Excellency is also the first Queensland Governor who visited Thailand as Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in November 2018.
2) Meeting with Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
On 15 March 2021, Ambassador Busadee met with The Hon. Curtis Pitt MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Both sides discussed about the post COVID-19 economic recovery and ways to enhance the interparliamentary ties and people to people contact between Thailand and Queensland.
3) Meetings with Mayor of Cairns and Mayor of Gold Coast
On 15 and 19 March 2021, Ambassador Busadee met with Cr. Bob Manning, Mayor of Cairns, and Cr. Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast, respectively.
In both meetings, Ambassador discussed about the economic impacts of COVID-19 in Thailand and Australia and thanked the Mayors for their support to the Thai communities residing in those cities and explored ways to collaborate with Cairns and Gold Coast in the post COVID period.
The Government of Queensland also supports filming industry in Gold Coast, which is the current filming location and production of the movie “13 lives”, based on the true story of the rescue of the 13 boys and coach of the Wild Boar Football Team from Thum Luang Cave, Chiang Rai in June- July 2018.
4) Visit to Centre for Clean Energy Technologies and Practices and the Cube, Queensland University of Technology
On 18 March 2021, Ambassador Busadee and Ms. Pamornpan Wong-Ngoen, Minister Counsellor of the Office of Educational Affairs, visited Centre for Clean Energy Technologies and Practices at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
The delegation met with with Prof. Ian McKinnon, the Cenre Director and Advisor to the Queensland Government on Hydrogen and Ms. Michelle Gane, the Centre Manager. Both sides discussed on possible future cooperation of renewable energy research and development.
In addition, Prof. McKinnon and team kindly showed the Cube to the delegation. The Cube is one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and display spaces, which delivers unique interactive digital learning experiences and communicates science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) concepts and bring research to the public.
