Thai Ambassador to Australia promoted Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor to the Australian investors

On 26 February 2021, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Australia, gave opening remarks on a webinar entitled “Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor: Post- COVID Investment Opportunities in Thailand”.
The event was jointly organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra, the Australia – Thailand Business Council (ATBC), the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) and Thailand Board of Investment, Sydney Office. The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development lies at the heart of Thailand 4.0 scheme. The EEC is an area-based development initiative on the 3 Eastern provinces, namely Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao. It envisages a significant transformation of both physical and social development and plays an important role as a regulatory sandbox uplifting the country’s competitiveness.
Opening the webinar, Ambassador Busadee highlighted the economic potential of Thailand as the hub of ASEAN and the economic trend in Thailand which was forecasted to recover from COVID-19 downturn this year.
Subsequently, Dr. Luxmon Attapich, EECO Deputy Secretary-General, updated the participants about EEC’s major infrastructure projects such as high speed rail link between Bangkok and the EEC, U-Tapao International Airport and 5G infrastructure in the area. Dr. Luxmon also emphasized the post-COVID investment opportunities in the EEC in many fields, including health, digital and logistics as well as the international cooperation on Bio-Circular-Green Economy model (BCG), which is currently a national agenda of Thailand.
After the webinar, a number of potential investors from Australia have further inquired about the investment opportunities and privileges in the EEC.
