On 12 February 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra welcomed 25 participants of the Mekong - Australia Partnership Masterclass: Applied Legal Policy Skills from Thailand’s justice sector and related agencies involved in the development of the country’s legal and judicial system. Representatives from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and faculty members from Flinders University, South Australia, also attended the event.
On this occasion, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, delivered welcoming remarks. She underscored the close and long-standing ties between Thailand and Australia, noting that initiatives under the Mekong - Australia Partnership (MAP) of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have contributed to promoting closer cooperation, encouraging knowledge exchange, and strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries. The Masterclass topics, focusing on such issues as good governance, the rule of law, human rights, and the promotion of inclusive access and participation, reflected priorities shared by both Thailand and Australia. The Ambassador expressed hope that the participants would gain valuable insights that can be applied to further develop Thailand’s legal and judicial system and support Thailand’s ongoing accession process to the OECD.
The Masterclass, organised by Flinders University, aims to strengthen capacity in rule of law principles, judicial independence, inclusive access to justice across all sectors of society. It also promotes the application of international standards and anti-corruption legal and policy frameworks and the use of digital technology and innovation to enhance the efficiency of the justice system.
