On 7 February 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra, together with Embassies and High Commissions of ASEAN member countries in Canberra, participated in the 2026 National Multicultural Festival (NMF) at Ainslie Place, Canberra. The Embassy hosted a booth in the “ASEAN Village” to promote and showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the ASEAN countries, as well as to provide information to the visitors.
On this occasion, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Showcase, together with Mr. Andrew Barr, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), and Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN member countries in Canberra. The programme featured cultural performances by ASEAN countries, including Thailand. Miss Sabrina Holzschuh, a member of the Thai community in Canberra, performed the Fon Ti or Umbrella Dance, a traditional folk dance representing the Northen Thai’s cultural identity and local craftsmanship. The dance was created by the Chiang Mai College of Dramatic Arts and was first performed at the National Theatre in 1992 in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
The Embassy’s booth displayed fruit and vegetable carvings, and traditional Thai costumes were provided for the visitors to wear and take photos as souvenirs. These activities received significant interest from festival visitors. The Embassy also distributed information about tourist destinations in Thailand.
The National Multicultural Festival is an annual 3-day event organized by the government of the ACT in February to promote and celebrate cultural diversity. It is one of the largest and most important events in Canberra. In 2025, the festival brought together over 329,000 visitors.
