Ambassador of Thailand’s Visit to Cairns, Queensland

On 22-25 August 2023, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand, visited Cairns, Queensland.
At the invitation of Nita Green, Senator for Queensland and Special Envoy for the Great Barrier Reef (GBR), the Thai Ambassador joined the study trip to experience and learn about key management, science, and protection programmes for the GBR, including efforts related to engagement with and roles of the tourism industry and local communities. During the briefing, the GBR Marine Park Authority expressed readiness to share its experiences and explore cooperation with international partners.

While in Cairns, Ambassador Arjaree visited Mitr Phol Group’s MFS Sugar Mill and Ratch-Australia’s Mount Emerald Wind Farm, both being investments from Thailand into Australia, to discuss about their operations. She also met with the Far North Queensland Thai Community Association and other members of the Thai community, and went to Wat Khemarangsee in Redlynch to pay respect to the abbot of the temple.

In addition, Ambassador Arjaree called on Cr Bob Manning OAM, Mayor of Cairns, and discussed issues related to tourism, people-to-people exchanges as well as the role of Thai community. She also met with Distinguished Professor Stewart Lockie, Director of the Cairns Institute, James Cook University, to learn about the Institute’s research focus and potential for collaboration.
