1. Eligible Applicants for TR Visa
- This category of visa is issued to eligible applicants who are currently residing in Australia and wishing to enter Thailand for the sole purpose of tourism only.
2. TR Visa Conditions
- TR Visa is valid for a single entry into Thailand for tourism purposes only.
- TR Visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Travellers must enter Thailand within the said 3-month period. They will be allowed to stay in Thailand for a period of up to 60 days, counting from the date of entry. Extension is possible for another 30 days, with maximum period of stay of 90 days, counting from the date of entry.
- The extension of stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Extension application can be made at the Office of Immigration Bureau (visit www.immigration.go.th for more information)
- If the TR Visa holder breaches the entry conditions (for example, if he/she engages in work-related activities), the stay permit will be revoked and he/she will be prohibited from entering Thailand in the future.
3. TR Visa Application Procedures
- Each applicant must submit a complete application form together with the required documents* to the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra by post or in person. Prepare required documents as follows:

- Australian Electronic Visa (VEVO) for proof of residence in Australia (only for Non-Australian passport holders)
3.4 Evidence of adequate finance

- Copy of updated bank statement with a minimum balance of THB 20,000 per person, or THB 40,000 per family
3.5 Confirmed accommodation in Thailand under the applicant’s name.
3.6 Copy of an airline ticket indicating the date of arrival to and departure from Thailand or letter stating the itinerary/travel plan of the applicant
3.7 Visa fee AUD 60 (Payment can be made by cash, money order, or cheque, paid to “Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra”)
3.8 A prepaid return envelope with self-address
4. TR Visa processing times
- Visa processing time is up to 5 business days
- Certain applications which require special consideration may take longer to process.
Additional Requirements on Thai Visa Application for Certain Nationals

Additional Requirements for nationals of Cameroon, Central African Republic Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, North Korea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan and Syria
Holders of passports, or holders of Australian travel documents who are nationals, of the above-mentioned countries are requested to apply for Thai visa in person at the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra can issue visa to the passport holders of the above-mentioned countries, provided that the applicant obtains a residence status in Australia.

Visa Application for Nationals of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Lebanon, Iran, Egypt, China, Syria and Yemen who visit Australia with the Australian Visitor Visa (subclass 600)
You can submit your application along with supporting documents below. After submission, your application will be sent off to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be considered. This will take at least 4 – 6 weeks.
According to the long process, please allow at least 2 months before travelling to Thailand.

Visa Application for Nigerian nationals (Application in person only)
For a Nigerian whose residence is in Australia with re-entry visa for studying (please also see requirement under no. 2.4 below), working or residing (on spouse, marriage visa), application for a visa shall be made at the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra with requirement Clearance Certificate issued by N.D.L.E.A in Nigeria. Otherwise, please see below.
4.1 For a Nigerian whose residence is in Nigeria, application for a visa shall be made at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria ONLY, with requirement of Clearance Certificate issued by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (N.D.L.E.A) in Nigeria.

4.2 For Nigerian whose residence is in countries where no Thai Embassy/ Consulate-General is situated, application for a visa shall be made at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, in person with requirement of Clearance Certificate issued by N.D.L.E.A in Nigeria.
4.3 For a Nigerian whose residence is in foreign countries where a Thai Embassy is situated or accredited to, application for a visa shall be made in person at the Embassy in that country with requirement of Clearance Certificate issued by N.D.L.E.A in Nigeria. For a Nigerian who is long term residents in Australia, applicant can submit a police clearance certificate from Australia instead of NDLEA Certificate.
4.4 For a Nigerian students studying in a country where a Thai Embassy is situated, application for a visa shall be made at the Embassy or in that country with requirement of Clearance Certificate issued by N.D.L.E.A in Nigeria, provided that the following conditions are met:
- studying in the country
- residing in the country where the applicant studying without leaving from that country for a certain period of one year at the minimum
- holding a re-entry visa to that country
- wishing to travel to Thailand for educational purposes only
4.5 For a Nigerian holding a diplomatic/official passport, application for a visa shall be made at any Thai Embassy in any country of the applicant’s convenience.

- Clearance Certificate by NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) in Nigeria, certified by Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs and legalised by Royal Thai Embassy Abuja, Nigeria. For the Nigerians who are long term residents in Australia, applicants can submit valid police clearance certificate from Australia instead of NDLEA Certificate.
- Travel booking confirmation (This can be flight details shown departure date, flight number from Australia-Thailand and Thailand-Australia.) You must show all routes if there are stops in between. We will not consider your application if you do not have a return flight details.
- Proof of accommodation in Thailand e.g. accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand
- Letter from school/employer/self assessment
– If you are working, you are required to submit a letter from your employer. The letter should have the headed paper of the Company stating your current position addressed to the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra to certified your working status. If you are self employed, you should submit a copy of your self-assessment paper, a copy company registration document or any other type of document confirming your working status.
– If you are student, you should submit the letter from the school/University addressed to the Royal Thai Embassy confirming your status.
- Financial evidence e.g. bank statements from An Australian current account
(3 months) with deposit of at least AU$1,000, with your name and address, or printed out with the authorisation by the bank, or proof of earnings, sponsorship letter.
– For working or business purposes: Letter from employer/company in Thailand
– For studying or educational purposes: Letter of acceptance from educational institute in Thailand as an example
- Visa fee AUD 60 (Payment can be made by cash, money order, or cheque, paid to “Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra”)
- A prepaid return envelope with self-address
Documents in foreign languages must be translated into English and the translation must be certified by the relevant embassies in Canberra.
5. Remarks
- The Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra reserves the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary as well as reject any application without prejudice.
- The applicants must provide genuine documents and information. If the applicants are found to provide false documents or give false information, their applications will be rejected and be reported for further determination of appropriate action and future prohibition to enter the Kingdom of Thailand.
- Visa processing fees are non-refundable regardless outcome.
- Visa processing fee is subject to change without prior notice.
