On 25 February 2025, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand, together with Group Captain Nawamarat Prapattong, Defence and Air Attaché, Captain Chanin Sriyaphai, RTN, Naval Attaché and Assistant Defence Attaché, and Colonel Theerachai Suksua, Army Attaché and Assistant Defence Attaché, hosted a Reception on the Occasion of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day at Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra. Admiral David Johnston, Chief of the Defence Force of Australia, attended the Reception as Guest of Honour. Also present at the event were representatives from the Australian Defence Force and Department of Defence of Australia, representatives from the diplomatic corps, and others, approximately 150 persons in total.

On this occasion, the Ambassador highlighted the role of the Thai Armed Forces, including the peacekeeping missions particularly in Timor-Leste, where Thai and Australian forces worked together, as well as the responsibilities in non-traditional security areas. She also emphasised on Thai-Australian military cooperation, which has now expanded to new areas such as intelligence sharing, cyberspace, counter-terrorism, logistics, and medical support as well as joint exercises under different frameworks, notably the Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 in which Thailand will participate for the first time and high-level exchanges. The Chief of the Defence Force of Australia expressed appreciation for the close ties and cooperation between Thai and Australian militaries and looked forward to his visit to Thailand to attend the ANZAC Day commemoration. Then, the Thai Defence and Air Attaché gave an overview of the role of the Thai armed forces, together with a video presentation of recent activities of the Thai military.

Thailand celebrates the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day on 18 January each year to commemorate the historic elephant duel of King Naresuan the Great. It is also the occasion to honour past Thai Kings’ endeavour to safeguard the country, as well as the ancestors and Thai soldiers.
