On 26 June 2025, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, visited Melbourne and met with Professor Emma Johnston, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. Both sides discussed opportunities to promote education and research collaboration between Thailand and the University of Melbourne, including network building, student exchanges, joint research, joint/dual degree programmes, and partnerships with Thai universities to set up programmes or campus in Thailand. They also exchanged views on possibilities for collaboration on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

Australia is one of the top destination countries for Thai students persuing studies abroad. The Thai government also provides scholarships for Thai students to pursue their studies in Australia.

On the same day, the Ambassador also met with Mr. Max Temminghoff and Mr. Warren Flentje, representatives from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). The Ambassador received a briefing on Australia’s development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), so as to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the aviation industry and contribute to the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to promote collaboration on development of clean industries. This is important not only to efforts at decarbonisation and energy transition but also contributes to addressing pollution and the impact of industrial activities on human health.
