On 9 December 2025, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, attended the Asia–Oceania regional launch of the Global Organized Crime Index 2025, organized by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI‑TOC) at the National Press Club in Canberra.

On this occasion, the Ambassador was invited to speak on Thailand’s perspective on the complex and multidimensional nature of transnational crimes in the Mekong Subregion, highlighting in particular the rise of cyber‑dependent and cyber‑enabled criminality, including online scams. These have had huge impacts and inflicted high costs on individuals, families, communities, societies, the environment, the economy and security. She emphasized the need for coordinated cooperation at the bilateral, subregional, regional, and international levels to effectively address these issues. The Ambassador also underscored Thailand’s strong commitment to combating the transnational crimes, including Thailand’s initiative to co‑host—together with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)— the International Conference on Global Partnership against Online Scams, to be held in Bangkok from 17 to 18 December 2025.

Other speakers at the event included Ms. Jane Duke, Australia’s Ambassador for Counter Modern Slavery, People Smuggling and Human Trafficking, and Mr. Steve Dunn, Senior Police Liaison Officer and Detective Superintendent at the New Zealand High Commission in Australia. GI‑TOC senior analysts Ms. Virginia Comolli and Ms. Kristina Amerhauser presented findings on transnational crime in the Oceania and in Southeast Asia respectively. Ms. Louise Taylor, Director of Asia-Pacific, GI-TOC, opened the event and moderated the discussions.

The event was attended by more than 70 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps, academics, and representatives from international organizations.
