On 19 July 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra organised a special Movie Night featuring the screening of the Thai blockbuster movie ‘How to Make Millions before Grandma Dies’ or “Lahn Mah” in Thai, at HOYTS Cinema, Westfield Belconnen, Canberra. The event was held to celebrate the great achievement and to mark the release of the movie in Australia. It was attended by distinguished guests from various sectors, including the Commissioner of International Engagement, Australian Capital Territory, a representative from Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ambassadors and members of diplomatic corps, members of the Women’s International Club (WIC) in Canberra and Australian National University Film Group (ANUFG), as well as Thai and Australian communities in Canberra.

Before the screening, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, delivered her welcome remarks, highlighting the great achievement of the movie not only in Thailand but also in other Southeast Asian countries. The movie has become the highest-grossing Thai film in the region with over 10 million viewers and garnered more than 50 million Australian dollars. This phenomenal success demonstrates the creativity and development of talents among Thai film producers and those involved as well as potential of Thai movies to expand to international markets. On this occasion, the Ambassador also highlighted Thailand’s pride as the sought-after location for international film productions, with the Hollywood’s Jurassic Park 4 production team currently shooting the film in Thailand. She expressed the hope that the success of “Lahn Mah” would contribute to more quality Thai films being brought to Australian audiences.
