Issuing Thai National ID Cards Abroad

General Guidelines and Information

The first ID card must be issued in Thailand only. The information on the ID card will reference the data in the Thai civil registration database. If the applicant wishes to change their name, title (in cases of marriage/divorce), or surname, they must rectify this information at the local district office in Thailand.

Individuals Who Cannot Obtain a Thai ID Card Abroad:

- Those listed in the central house registration.
- Individuals whose ID card has been expired for a long time and whose identity verification is unclear (must be verified).
- Individuals who have never had a card or do not have records of their first ID card issued in Thailand.

Documents Required to Obtain a National ID Card:

In case of expired ID card:
- The original ID card.
- No fee required.

In case of lost ID card:
- Must complete the declaration form for the ID card applicant.
- A copy of the previous ID card (if available) or a Thai government document with a 13-digit ID number and a photo, such as a Thai passport or Thai driver's license.
- If the ID card has been lost for a long time and the photo has changed, and no current Thai identification document is available, proof of identity from Australia that is still valid (such as a passport or driver’s license with a current photo) must be provided, ensuring that the name matches the Thai documents for identity verification.
- Fee of AUD 6.

In case of name or surname change or change of address in Thailand:
- The original ID card.
- A copy of the document evidencing the name change from the local district office in Thailand.
- A copy of the house registration.
- Fee of AUD 6.

In case of title change for a child who has turned 15 (from Master/Miss to Mr./Miss):
- The original ID card.
- No fee required.

In case of title change (from Miss to Mrs. or from Mrs. to Miss) due to marriage or divorce under Thai law:
- The original ID card.
- This can be processed after the title change at the local district office in Thailand.
- No fee required.

In case of title change (from Miss to Mrs. or from Mrs. to Miss) due to marriage or divorce under Australian law:
- The original ID card.
- This can be processed after the title change at the local district office in Thailand.
- No fee required.

Steps to Obtain an ID Card at the Embassy:

1. Scan the QR CODE to fill out the application form for the ID card (complete the form on the day of your application submission only).
2. Wait for your turn.
