General Information

  • Applicants are required to apply for a new passport in person because biodata is required.
  • Applicants are recommended to apply for a new passport when the validity of the current passport is less than 6 months.
  • E-passport cannot be renewed. Applicants must apply for a new passport prior to the expiration of the old passport.
  • When applying for a new Thai passport, the applicants can choose between 5-year validity (60 AUD) and 10-year validity (90 AUD).
  • The name and surname in the That passport must be in accordance with the personal data on the Thai House Registration. So, if the applicants wish to change the name/ surname in the Thai passport, the applicants are required to amend his/her personal data at the Thai District Offices in Thailand first.
  • The minor born abroad is entitled to have his/her first Thai passport without requiring to register for the 13-digits Thai national identification number. However, it is advised that the parents register for the Thai national identification number for the minor by registering his/her name in the Thai House Registration as it is mandatory in order to issue the second Thai passport for the minor.
  • It takes approximately 6-8 weeks to get a new Thai passport because it is produced in Thailand and then sent to Australia.

 

Required Documents

  • For Adult (20 years old and above)
    • Valid Thai national ID Card, original or its copy
    • Current Thai passport
    • Thai Birth Certificate, original or its copy (ONLY IN CASE OF FIRST THAI PASSPORT)
    • Valid Australian driver license (ONLY IN CASE OF FIRST THAI PASSPORT)
  • For Minors (under 20 years old)
    • Thai Birth Certificate, original or its copy (ONLY IN CASE OF FIRST THAI PASSPORT)

    • Current Thai national ID Card, original or its copy (ONLY IN CASE OF SECOND THAI PASSPORT ONWARDS)

    •  A copy of Thai House Registration of minor

    • The parents’ valid Thai National ID Card (for Thai parents), original or its copy

    • The parent’s valid Passport or driver license (for non-Thai parent), original or its copy

      * Both parents are required to be present and sign the consent form in the presence of the consular officer.

      ** If the parents cannot be present to sign the consent form in the presence of the consular officer.

      ·       In the case that the parent (s) is (are) in Thailand, a letter of consent is compulsory and it must be signed in the presence of the officials of the Department of Consular Affairs or the local Thai District Offices.

      ·       In the case that the parent (s) is (are) abroad, a letter of consent is compulsory and it must be signed in the presence of the officials of the Royal Thai Embassy or the Royal Thai Consulate concerned.

      ·       In the case that the minor is under 15 years of age and the minor’s parents wish to give authority to someone else to sign the consent form on their behalf, a power of attorney must be presented. The person signing the consent form on behalf of the parents must be 20 years of age and must bring his/her Thai national ID card.

      ·       In the case that the parents of the minor are not married and the minor is in the custody of the mother, only the mother is required to sign the consent form as well as presenting a copy of the letter of custody (Por Kor 14) document issued by the local Thai District Offices.

      ·       In the case that one of the parents of the minor passed away, a copy of the death certificate is required.

      ·       In the case that the parents of the minor are divorced,

            - if the parents have a shared custody of the minor, both parents must sign the consent form.

            - if one parent has sole custody of the minor, only the parent with the custody is required to sign the consent form. The divorce papers or court order indicating who has the custody of the child must be presented.

Passport Collection

Applicants can collect their passports by

  • bringing the expired passport and the pick-up slip to collect the passport in person or
  • giving authorization to another person to collect the passport on their behalf by signing their name on the pick-up slip and the expired passport has to be bought as well or
  • bringing a registered returned envelop for the Royal Thai embassy to send the passport by post.

EMERGENCY PASSPORT/ EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS


-The Embassy will issue an emergency passport (EP) or an emergency travel document (ETD) only to a Thai national whose passport is lost, expired, or stolen and cannot wait for an ordinary passport that takes 6-8 weeks to process.

-EP is valid for 1 year and costs 12 AUD, while ETD is valid for 30 days and gratis.

-EP and ETD require similar documents as ordinary passport, plus air ticket.

-EP/ ETD applicant is also required to apply in person but can be issued right away because it is produced by the Embassy.
