On 19 February 2025, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, along with Dr. Waraporn Saelee, Minister Counsellor (Agriculture), met with Mr. Jim Crane, Director for Industry and Government Affairs at the Australian Sugar Milling Council (ASMC). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the sugarcane industry in Australia and to learn about Australian best practices in reducing pollution from sugarcane cultivation.

 

ASMC represents major sugarcane producers in Australia, accounting for 85% of sugarcane cultivation in the country. Currently, Australia is the tenth largest sugarcane producer globally, exporting 85% of its production. Almost all of its sugarcane cultivation areas (95%) are located in Queensland.
