Thai Ambassador to Australia meets virtually with Western Australia’s trade and investment representatives

On 22 September 2021, H.E. Ms Busadee Santipitaks, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Heads of Agencies and Representatives from Team Thailand in Australia met via video conference with Ms. Simone Spencer, Deputy Director General, Strategy and International Engagement, Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JSTI) and Mr. Kristian Dawson, Executive Director, Invest and Trade Western Australia (ITWA) and Ms. Krista Dunstan, Western Australia’s Investment and Trade Commissioner for ASEAN.

On this occasion, both sides exchanged information and views on the trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and Western Australia. They agreed that Thailand and Western Australia can enhance the economic cooperation on energy, education, agriculture and medical technology. Both sides discussed the possibilities and imperative of resuming the direct flight between Thailand and Perth in the context of the easing of the international travel restrictions.

As Western Australia’s 8th top trading partner in 2020, Thailand enjoyed with Western Australia trade value of 4 billion AUD in 2020, equivalent to 1.8 percent share of the total trade volume of the state, which equals a quarter of Thailand – Australia trade volume in the same period. Apart from the close trade ties, the Thai community, businessmen and students of around 7,800 people live and work in Western Australia.
