Minister of Labour of Thailand made a working visit to Australia

On 1 – 6 March 2023, Mr Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Labour of Thailand, and his delegation visited Australia to learn about the labour situation and the life and working conditions of Thai workers, as well as to explore further employment opportunities for Thai skilled workers in Australia.

While in Canberra, Minister Suchart met with Ambassador Arjaree Sriratanaban and representatives of Team Thailand at the Royal Thai Embassy, on 1 March, and attended a working breakfast with executives of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), led by Ms. Nola Watson, President of ACCI, on 2 March.

Between 2 – 5 March , Minister Suchart visited Melbourne and held discussions with The Hon Brendan O’ Connor MP, Minister for Skills and Training, and with The Hon Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs. The Thai delegation also met with the Thai – Australian Chamber (TAC), a group of Thai businesspeople in Melbourne, visited Thai businesses in the area and met with members of Thai community at Dhammarangsee Temple.

As the Australian Government is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of Australia’s migration system, both sides will continue further discussions on issues that may be related to opportunities in Australia for Thai skilled workers.
