On 14 -15 May 2019, Ambassador Nantana Suvakua,Honorary Consul-general Simon Wallace and Minister Counsellor Pornpan Jankrajang paid respect to the Abbots of two important Buddhist temples in Melbourne.
Phra Maha Boonsom of Wat Thai Nakorn Melbourne (Wat Thai Boxhill) kindly shared with us history of the temple and how it developed, with support from Thai community in Melbourne, to serve as the spiritual healing place for the community. The Thai Language Center of the temple has served as the binding tie linking the younger generation to their ancestry.
Pra Ajarn Kalayano from Buddha Bodhivana Monastery reminded us that the most important contribution from Thailand to the world is the Buddhist teachings of Venerable Ajahn Cha and urged the Thai authorities to promote this valuable way to enlightenment. He also gave Dharma teaching on how to be mindful of our emotions and thoughts and learn to be aware of them as well as accepting them without judgement.
