Bringing Ashes or Sending Ashes Back to Thailand
The process must be handled by a Funeral Director only. The Royal Thai Embassy will facilitate the issuance of a Thai death certificate to be used as documentation for sending the body back to Thailand.
Bringing Ashes to Thailand Personally: You can carry the ashes on the plane as carry-on luggage, along with the following documents:
– Death certificate (Australia – Thailand)
– Cremation Certificate issued by the Funeral Director
– Original ID card/passport of the deceased
However, it is recommended to contact the airline to check the detailed regulations regarding bringing ashes on board.
Sending Ashes Back to Thailand by Mail: Ashes can be sent by mail through two methods:
1. Via a private courier company (please check the company’s requirements)
2. Through the Royal Thai Embassy, with the following documents required:
– Death certificate (Australia – Thailand)
– Cremation Certificate issued by the Funeral Director
– Original ID card/passport of the deceased
